Motorola Edge Plus (2023): You will probably never be allowed to use this new high-end smartphone

165 Hz and rounded on all edges: Motorola introduces a new high-end smartphone that is supposed to keep up with the best Android phones – just not with us.

Motorola has just introduced the Motorola Edge Plus (2023): a high-end smartphone packed with features and designed to compete with the best Android phones like the Galaxy S23 Pixel 7 Pro. In addition, the Edge Plus has a striking design with rounded edges on each side.

Here in Europe, the new high-end cell phone will not compete with Samsung and Co. – it is only intended for the North American market so far.

What specs will the Edge Plus (2023) have?

The Edge Plus (2023) will have pretty much every spec you could want from a high-end smartphone.

The powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen2 is used as the processor, which also works in many other flagship phones. This is supported by 8 GB of LPDDR5X RAM. For storage variants, there is a choice between 256 or 512 GB. The Edge Plus (2023) also has an IP68 certification and is therefore protected against dust and water.

Motorola does not make any compromises when it comes to the display: It has a screen diagonal of 6.7 inches and uses a pOLED panel. These rely on a plastic substrate to make them more flexible, which is important for Edge Plus (2023). The screen is rounded on all edges.

In addition, there is a very fast refresh rate of 165 Hz. Such a high Hz number is still a rarity even in flagship smartphones. For comparison: The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra and the iPhone 14 Pro have 120 Hz.

There are three cameras on the back: a main camera with 50 megapixels and optical image stabilization, a 50-megapixel ultra wide-angle camera that can also function as a macro camera, and a 12-megapixel portrait lens with 2x zoom.

Motorola pays great attention to the front camera of the Edge Plus (2023). This has a resolution of 60 megapixels and uses AI to analyze the different levels of the image. You should be able to see which segments the image is divided into, such as buildings in the background and people in the foreground. These are then individually optimized, which should ensure realistic and true-color images.

5,100 mAh battery will ensure a long endurance, which according to Motorola makes the Edge Plus (2023) ready for two days of use. If this is then empty, you will be able to fully charge the mobile phone within 9 minutes with the supplied 68-watt charging adapter. Wireless charging takes much longer with only 15 watts. Reverse charging, i.e. charging other devices with the cell phone is also possible with 5 watts.

Android 13 will be factory installed as the operating system. The Edge Plus (2023) will receive 3 years of Android updates and 4 years of security updates. It will be released on May 9th by contract partners in the USA. It will also be available in American stores from May 25th, starting at 800 US dollarsIt is not yet known whether it will also be released in Europe.
