Samsung Galaxy S23 FE: The Fan Edition is supposed to celebrate a comeback – but it could already be too late for the launch

A cheaper Galaxy S23: Samsung could continue the Fan Edition series – but the forecast launch has an unfavorable timing.

Samsung’s Fan Edition smartphones are stripped-down versions of flagship smartphones that you can buy at a cheaper price. The correct positioning of these in the market has always been a challenge for Samsung.

They must not be too expensive, otherwise, you simply go for the cheapest flagship. They shouldn’t be too cheap either, otherwise, this would have a negative impact on sales of the A series. This was probably one of the reasons why there hasn’t been a fan edition of the S22 series to date. If you wanted to save money with an S22 cell phone, you simply grabbed the basic version.

A new leak should not only confirm the existence of a new fan edition but also reveal the first specs and information about a possible release.

The camera and processor get an upgrade

An anonymous source has told GalaxyClub that the Galaxy S23 FE will feature the same 50-megapixel main camera found in the Galaxy S23 and S23 Plus.

This is most likely the in-house image sensor Samsung S5KGN3, which is 1/1.57 inch in size and is accompanied by an F/1.8 lens. The Galaxy S23 FE would thus make a significant leap in resolution compared to the S21 FE, which still had a 12-megapixel sensor.

By using the same sensor, the other camera features of the S23 series, like the new lithography mode, could also find their way onto the fan edition.

Although all Samsung Galaxy S23 phones use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen2, a report from Sammobile suggests that the S23 FE will once again use an Exynos processor – the Exynos 2200 to be precise. This was used in the smartphones of the Galaxy S22 series.

The launch should not be until the end of 2023

The Galaxy S21 FE had a big problem: by the time it came out, almost a year after the launch of the “normal” Galaxy S21, the S21 FE had become so cheap that the fan edition didn’t make much sense anymore. A big advantage of the S21 FE is the one-year longer update support.

According to Sammobile, the S23 FE should also appear later this year. It is therefore quite possible that by this time the S23 smartphones have become a fair bit cheaper. If it also turns out to be true that the S23 FE relies on an Exynos 2200, which has a demolished image due to technical difficulties, many could opt for the basic version of the Galaxy S23 instead.

Ultimately, the price will decide whether the fan edition will really be a phone for Samsung fans.
